For this edition of our Meet the Team series, we sat down with Head Chef Ben Field to learn more about his passion for the culinary arts, his approach to hospitality, and what makes his time at Yiannis Wine & Food so special.

How long have you been working in the restaurant industry?
"I’ve been in the industry for 15 years now. It’s been a journey—starting from learning the basics to now leading a kitchen. Every day, I find something new to love about it."
What inspired you to pursue a career in hospitality and the culinary world?
"My mom, without a doubt. She was always cooking when I was growing up, and I spent a lot of time in the kitchen with her. Watching her create amazing meals with so much love and care really sparked my interest in food. That connection to cooking never left me."

What’s a skill or technique you’re most proud of mastering?
"A perfect sear—whether it’s on a steak or a piece of fish. It’s one of those things that looks simple, but it takes precision, timing, and a feel for the heat. When it’s done right, it elevates the dish completely."
Is there a specific wine you enjoy recommending to guests?
"I really like recommending the Carmanet Chardonnay. It’s got a nice balance—creamy with just the right amount of oak—but still fresh enough to pair well with a variety of dishes. It’s a great wine for both seasoned wine lovers and those just starting to explore whites."

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of work?
"Spending time with my daughter is my number one priority outside of the kitchen. Family time means everything to me, whether it’s just hanging out at home or going on little adventures together."
How do you make a guest’s dining experience special?
"For me, it’s all about making guests feel at home. I don’t want them to feel like just another customer—I want them to feel like they’re part of the Yiannis family. Whether it’s through the food, a personal recommendation, or just a friendly chat, I want every guest to have a memorable experience."

What’s a memorable experience you’ve had while working at Yiannis?
"Winning First Place Critics' Choice at the East Coast She Crab Soup Classic was a huge moment for me and the team. It was a testament to all the hard work we put in and the passion we bring to the kitchen every day. That win really meant a lot."
